Whenever I visit Halifax, coming back to Toronto really makes me want to move to Halifax. Also true for Vancouver, but a little less so because it’s such a ridiculously expensive place to live, and while I love Vancouver’s pace, I love Halifax (and Nova Scotia’s) scale.

And someday I will presumably want something other than PD and the tech scene in NS is nascent, where “nascent” especially means “not many roles for SREs”. So then I’m in the “find a job that’s remote from day one” situation.

But on the other hand, cost of living is much nicer, and you can be at the shore! or in the woods! in a half hour drive! instead of in uh markham i guess

At Red Hat, our remote engineers have significant influence. It's hard for me to say if it's less than in-office, but I feel like my remote coworkers and I have influence. If you start to shop around, give me a shout, we have tons of openings at RH doing interesting stuff :)

yeah, no plans to shop around yet (even if I did move it’d be “move, remote for PD, then shop around only when it was a natural time to move on”) but i would totally do so and appreciate the offer :)
