Why is the latest generation of fake meat called "plant-based" instead of "vegetarian"? Is it a way of saying they aren't really vegetarian, or just marketing phrasing?

Also some of the new stuff contains heme protein--in other words, blood flavoring. It's just plant products and industrial food chemistry, no real animal blood involved, but imo it was a smart marketing decision to avoid the vegetarian label.

as a vegan who follows this stuff super closely, this is the reason. the latest generation of plant-based meats are not meant to please existing vegs, they're meant to woo omnivores. them and 'cell-based' (cultured) meats are parallel products in this way
