Does anyone know how Amazon S3's Standard-IA maintains the same performance characteristics as S3 Standard _despite_ costing half as much? Is it purely financial trickery where the cost is assumed to be long-term, and therefore cheaper?

Weirdly, the intelligent tierings IA level doesn’t charge for transfer.

Hm, you’re right, transfers are at Standard pricing! Nice. I see there’s also a $0.0025 per 1,000 objects charge for intelligent tiering, but that’s not much.. I suspect AWS benefits from the tiering and passes the savings on like
