Excited to share my first pre-print (and the first from the Shaw lab)! Plasticity in a Drosophila wing circuit supports an adaptive sleep function. In collaboration with . Takeaways below, feedback welcome!

Saw a really nice demonstration of refractive index matching last week. Decided to do my own version. Thanks to my kids for the "samples"

Lovely historical perspective on the theories of Herb and Lashley. Think of myself as a circuit person, but really enjoyed this long commentary. A useful reminder that there’s a lot to be learned from studying classic theories of brain and mind even in 2020...

The Axel lab at Columbia has several open positions for research techs! Great opportunity especially for recent grads looking to get more research experience before applying to PhD or MD programs. And you get to do really cool stuff!

We have engineered a genetically encodable synthetic synapse useful to rewire circuits, to examine neurotransmission or to alter neuromodulation in vivo. The system is robust, immediately technically applicable & we are ready to share it. Work done by postdoc (thread)

Really informative on the science, great writing, really interesting take home messages, definitely should be left on the desks of many men to read.

Fly connectomics hits keep coming! BacTrace - a new retrograde tracer (that uses a Botulinum toxin variant) looks like a fantastic tool! Many have tried without much success at developing retrograde tracers before- huge congrats to and colleagues!

I have not had a chance to play with this dataset yet, but it promises to be a terrific resource! Congratulations to everybody involved! One connectome won't solve the brain, but sure will help us all design elegant experiments

Thrilled to share our paper out today in Nature Neuroscience. We developed a novel chemogenetic strategy (ciPSI) to block new protein synthesis in specific cell types using an engineered drug-inducible version of eIF2α kinase PKR. 1/n
