What is happening to teachers should be criminal. These salaried positions are just a way to get more work and more hours for free work. Salaried positions should be illegal. Actually I did. What you don’t see is the endless hours teachers spend grading papers on weekends, calling parent on their time, planning, etc. Every salaried worker I know actually works more than 40 hours. According to research the salaried worker actually works over 50 hrs/wk.

You are right that teachers go uncompensated for their work. We just need better contracts that reflect the days we get paid for.. right now our contracts say we work 190 days. SC teachers on ave. work 46 days more than that every year.

This is a much better solution! My mom had an hourly position in a school and the pandemic meant she didn't get paid. Hourly isny the way to go. (Also it would mean re-writing the FLSA laws).

When I taught I put in 12 hr days at school and more over the weekend putting lesson plans, exercises, & tests together! If they paid teachers hourly for what the put in just at school, they would not be roping teachers into extracurricular activities to boot.

Teachers should not be forced to participate in activities after school. I will expect a more compassionate electorate after Trump. (No matter what, I always support teachers!)

Definitely paid for overtime, including out of pocket medical expenses and personal time lost for COVID testing and treatment.
