It's hard to even imagine any other position than neutrality. If Trump had foregrounded human rights, he could perhaps have been a "leader of the free world." But he didn't. He spoke of "America first" and clearly targets China for national economic and strategic reasons.

For now, the conflict is between America and China. Europe is out.
