Travel bans are like sanctions, easy to impose, hard to lift. China cannot go back to normalcy until the many travel bans are lifted. Which government will take the lead in doing so? What guidelines will they follow?

tech people and journalists mocking poll workers is really not something I expected today but it's as good a marker as any we've officially entered another hell cycle.

*Still* no results from , but it seems pretty clear Biden ran a dismal 4th. While he didn’t need to win Iowa and wasn’t banking on it, no Democrat has ever run 4th there & still won the nomination.

With the benefit of a night’s sleep... a lot of the handwringing about the Iowa results feels overwrought. In 2016 it took a month for California to count up its primary ballots. A month! The bigger issue is that we expected to have a media narrative last night, and we don’t.

Look at how easy it is to completely eviscerate public confidence in an election result. This is just one small state. Now multiply last night's chaos by 50, and you get a sense of the potential havoc come November.

A ton of people in Iowa became registered Democrats tonight. Waukee precinct 6 ran out of on-site voter registration forms, and so caucus volunteer Lesley Christensen had to run to a local hardware store and then a Hy-Vee to make 60 extra copies of registration forms.

Just to touch on a point here: There wasn't chaos at the caucuses I watched. People picked their candidates, and the caucus chairs logged their support on paper. The issue is getting those numbers to the party. In other words: somebody has already won, we just don't know it yet.
