No one is getting jail on a petty theft. 30 days jail translates to being booked and released. Everyone working in CJS knows this. You can sentence someone to 364 days and if it’s non-violent, maybe they’ll do a wk. This is all pre-covid. There are people on five diff grants

All the more reason to reduce the prison population. Perhaps if you wouldn't have had tens of thousands of people being sentenced by over zealous DA's with ridiculous enhancements, maybe there be more room in the jails for people who shoplift to do their 6 months
