In order for a poor presumed innocent person to sit in jail for a violent crime like murder (bc before this LA and SF were releasing people left and right unless they were repeat offenders) there has to be probable cause for an arrest. No one is sitting in custody w no evidence

Against them. You have to put 10% down for bail. And if we really want to make it fair bc that’s what we are concerned w, I’m fine w just keeping everybody in custody. Bc the new way is a hell of a lot worse than what we were doing before

the court system doesnt agree with you. poor people can't even afford the 10%! there's probable cause for arrest, but the whole point of being in jail is to hold you till your court date. I think youre confusing jail with prison where you go after sentencing.

Well actually,
@GeorgeGascon@LADAOffice in the humphries case set an insane bail amount.@chesaboudin@SFDAOffice appealed it, which is how we got the humphries decision. The humphries is NOT no cash bail. It says you have to take the persons financial circumstances into acct.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

Exactly! So if youre to poor you don't pay bail.

No, if you’re poor now, in certain cases where bail would be set at some amt, it’s now NO bail at all and you’re sitting in custody bc you’re a repeat offender. Now it depends on the judge and in SF, they just let everyone out, but that is one of the things that’s happening.

I don't see anything wrong with that. At least now theyre prioritizing who actually deserves to be in jail, a shoplifter isn't a priority like a murderer or rapist.

A shoplifter isn’t sitting in jail. It’s not an at least. That hasn’t been happening in LA or SF for the last decade. FFS.

They're prioritizing who actually NEEDS to be in jail is what I'm saying. A shoplifter isn't a danger to the community like a rapist or murderer.

That’s what has been happening for the last decade. The shoplifter who is sitting in jail, if there is one (pre all this drama), is the person w a warrant hold out of another county (which means they did it show up on a criminal case somewhere else and need to be sent there)

It’s the person who was on parole or probation (and even those people aren’t kept in custody), it’s the person who keeps doing it (but it has to be a lot of fucking times). And this all pre-existed these “progressive” DAs. You’ve been told a fairytale.
