Listen to the other expert, not @SFPDChief (“If we’re going to let people out of jail then let us be there to prevent crime before they commit them next time”). Other expert: “No bail has contributed to violence with felons being released on no bail or on GPS.”https://twitter.com/SFPDChief/status/1407745539332927490 …

No cash bail is w disaster. A disaster. Anyone who thinks it’s a good idea needs to sit in a courtroom. 20+ open cases (can’t even make through the doors wo help) and the person gets released. Can’t do the bare minimum, hundreds of chances, picks up new case, released.

And having cash bail wasnt working either it just overcrowded the jails and overworked the court system. At least this way poor presumed innocent people don't have to sit in jail while the rich can get out because they have money for bail.

In order for a poor presumed innocent person to sit in jail for a violent crime like murder (bc before this LA and SF were releasing people left and right unless they were repeat offenders) there has to be probable cause for an arrest. No one is sitting in custody w no evidence

Against them. You have to put 10% down for bail. And if we really want to make it fair bc that’s what we are concerned w, I’m fine w just keeping everybody in custody. Bc the new way is a hell of a lot worse than what we were doing before

the court system doesnt agree with you. poor people can't even afford the 10%! there's probable cause for arrest, but the whole point of being in jail is to hold you till your court date. I think youre confusing jail with prison where you go after sentencing.

Well actually,
@GeorgeGascon@LADAOffice in the humphries case set an insane bail amount.@chesaboudin@SFDAOffice appealed it, which is how we got the humphries decision. The humphries is NOT no cash bail. It says you have to take the persons financial circumstances into acct.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
Now, what we are doing instead, depending on the judge, is releasing people, setting bail at $1000 for drug dealers, or in cases where bail would normally be set and the person might get a bail bondsmen, they’re sitting in custody with no bail. Not zero bail. No bail.
