So let me get this straight: Hillary Clinton, out of the blue & unprovoked, attacks a leading Dem presidential candidate (“Nobody likes him...he got nothing done”) &, then, when that candidates’ supporters boo her *for that line* they are to blame for incivility & Dem disunity??
I’m amazed at the number of smart people on this website, who should know better, but who are tweeting out takes on this without mentioning the original - & v personal - attack on Sanders, from Clinton, which rightly annoyed his supporters.
Also, many of those liberals who spent years telling Bernie to reach out to & listen to women of color are now telling Bernie to censor a woman of color: Congresswoman @RashidaTlaib. It’s almost as if they don’t actually care about women of color, unless they’re on Hillary’s side
Lastly, as someone who’s experienced massive racism/Islamophobia, some free advice to my white liberal friends: when you condemn (or vaguely criticize) racism on my behalf, I don’t then ‘owe’ you. Condemning racism is the the right thing to do; not a ‘favor’ to people of color.
But if you play it that way; “she did it first” then you can go all the way back to 2016 when sanders drug it all out and weakened her. I find this to be a bad take, which is rare for you.
He didn't weaken her! He presented a platform of policies he believed in that resonated with people who were tired of the status quo.
Please take a step back and look how that appears to everyone. We are in scary times. Hillary is not the enemy and Bernie folks need not be so protective of their candidate. The goal is to stop Trump and his cult and not create more factions that divide us.
She represents the establishment. She's not our main enemy, but certainly is not someone acting in our interests. Also, she started this. Why are we always blamed for responding to attacks but the people who start the fights always escape blame? Why are we expected to take it?
If you are disappointed in someone's actions (which in this case may be fully warranted), it is a very strange criticism to then mirror those same actions. One must hold oneself to a higher standard than those one criticizes. That's leadership.
