It's not every day you get a tweet that incorporates particle physics *and* a John Steinbeck reference. Love it.

What's the Earth's "skin", or crust, made out of? This viz breaks it down for you.

Light pollution doesn't just mess up the night sky for astronomers and people who like a starry vista -- it's wreaks havoc on many kinds of life who depend on natural light to function. (This can include humans, BTW.)

For some unknown reason, this story about chaos reigning after a bunch of cosmic heavyweights collided popped into my head. Who can say why (after she checks the morning news ...)?

I love this "Great Observatories" video done for the end of . It's got a great SuperFriends-circa-1983 aesthetic that makes me think Zan and Jayna would approve.

And you just needed to be around in 1987 (and live in the southern hemisphere and *really* good eyesight) to see this very famous SUPERnova, now known as SN87A. It's been observed by , and many other telescopes.

And if you happened to be alive 1,000+ years ago, you could have seen this object go kaboom. This is now called SUPERnova 1006 (after the year AD in which it was recorded). Here it is in its 3D glory, based on data.

This 3D SUPERnova is Cassiopeia A. If you were alive about 340 years ago, you had a chance to watch this star explode (it would have looked like a new bright object in the sky.)
