Google turned over a list of four devices that were in the area at the time and gave police location data tracking the movements of those devices. Avondale police thought one fit the movement pattern of the Honda that tailed Knight, so they asked Google for additional info.

Google said the device was linked to the account of Jorge Molina, a 23-year-old retail worker. Whoever was using that Google account had also searched "shooting in Avondale" on the night of the murder. Then police learned Molina owned a white Honda like the one seen that night.

One day after arresting Molina, APD talked to his mom, sisters, and friends, who gave police text messages and Uber receipts showing that they had been with Molina at his home up until about 12:11am on the night of the murder. Knight was killed two miles away at 12:12am

According to a lawsuit filed by Molina, one day after his arrest, a detective told the county attorney's office it was "highly unlikely" Molina murdered Knight and said Molina ought to be released. MCAO kept Molina in jail for another 6 days before releasing him w/o charges
