Seeing "Dr. Ford" trending reminds me anew of how much I hate when PhDs who are not medical doctors want to be addressed as "Dr." It undermines authority rather than underscores it. That goes for you, too, Dr. Jill Biden.

This is a kind of low (as in skunky) damning of hundreds of thousands of gifted and hardworking professors by association.

Ph.D.s generally take much longer to earn and require a lot of independent thought and research. I’m related to a ton of MDs which is to say I have huge respect for what they do. Same goes for Ph.Ds. Doctor all around.pic.twitter.com/kRZh4abiV5

I came here to say this. Surrounded by PhDs while earning mine, and subsequently working in academia and industry, I rarely use Dr. title. Most of us don’t - mostly when being introduced at events, or we need to make a point to people like
