@ big tech companies - please don’t come to university events to boast about how enthusiastic you are about neurodiversity and then refuse to commit to actively recruiting autistic adults.

Somehow I have become a Top Hat Historian. I’m as surprised as you are. Thank you and for organising this event and letting me debut my most fun (and niche) project 🎩

PhD student, c.2020: Here’s a limited argument I made based on years of specialized research. Hope it’s OK 😕 Philosopher dude, c.1770: Here are some Thoughts I had in the Bath. They constitute Universal & Self-Evident Laws of Nature. FIGHT ME.

Low-key still astonished that what was mostly an excuse for me to gather together all my fave queer researchers and listen to them talk about their work is now actually part of Oxford’s LGBT History Month programme! My closeted teenage self could never have imagined!!

Today marks the start of LGBT History month 2020. "Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead." - Oscar Wilde. Check out our upcoming event on Writing Queer Lives: +

Disabled people were innovative designers of technology. This prosthetic was designed by a coal miner before 1977, using available materials, such as a metal bucket for a socket, nails, chain & chicken wire to secure the parts, & a leather boot.

Went to visit the Old Labs at for the first time since I learned about Ida Freund, who worked here 1890-1913 and was the first woman chemistry lecturer (also the first to use cupcakes to teach the periodic table!) Every day I’m more grateful to get to study here.

An alarming number of people in the C18th diaries I’m reading are dying because they drank water that was ‘too cold’. Please can any or medical professionals explain this phenomenon so that I can go back to drinking chilled water without fear?

I wanted to include a section on the hat production process (because it's awesome), but I'm struggling to find a queer angle on that part...

I'm writing a paper on the 'Queer History of the Top Hat' and this topic has EVERYTHING: fops, dandies, insecure industrialists, terrible imperialists, the Ladies of Llangollen, illegal cross-dressing, male impersonators, cabaret!!!! (spoiler: they're all super queer) 🎩🏳️‍🌈
