What does it mean to call it a "public health" problem?

2nd, it means using data & science - not emotion or rhetoric - to create lasting change. We did this for car crashes (without taking cars off the road.... we just made them safer). We did this for AIDS. Evangelicals (e.g., Surgeon General Koop) were among the leaders.pic.twitter.com/fBmE4tULxQ
3rd, it means FEDERAL FUNDING to do the work.
Foundations & philanthropy eg @LauraArnoldFdn @ResearchAFFIRM have been filling the void. But that's insufficient.

We all want to follow outrage. That hasn't gotten us anywhere. Let's do what WORKS.

Physician screening/ interventions.
Safe storage.
Simple policies.

Here's the god awful truth: we have more guns, per person, than almost any other country in the world. We also have horrible inequalities & anger. Most guns are not used to hurt people. But some are. It's time that we own up to, & fix, ALL OF IT. There's simply no other way.
