  1. This pandemic has uncovered how truly cruel, selfish, and sociopathic so many people are. Today, for example, America is mourning the 2,977 lives lost in 9/11. Yesterday alone, 2,418 people died in the USA of covid. 659,000 deaths in the USA since January 2020. Tragic.

Leena M: one can't forget leaders waving the tricolor at the rapists rally in Kathu. Sexual violence is the core of Hindu supremacist agenda.

Journalism is one of the jobs that credentials like an elite profession but pays like a trade. We justify the gap by saying it's a calling. But in reality, the whole thing should be re-thought.

I could write 15 columns on how shitty this all is. But really the takeaway needs to be that we can only upend this trend if we let ourselves be just OK and stand around to help each other. The lack of safety net is what keeps the pipeline from being cyclical.

The system did it to us. We internalized the system. We make it harder to see outside of the system. The impacts particularly hit leaders of color who walk on eggshells for fear of failure. Silicon Valley popularized failing forward. But JOC can’t even fail to begin with.

Sometimes insurance companies will tell you that you cannot buy flood insurance if you’re not in a flood zone and I need you to pull a “let me speak to your manager” because that is not true. Anyone can buy flood insurance regardless of what the flood maps say.

  14. Yesterday we got news that Boston & Dallas Fed leaders would sell stock holdings to combat conflict of interest fears many had about the men's very active trading while sitting on the FOMC. Will use this thread to show the extent of trading the Dallas chief reported to his bank.

Key piece of the Biden plan is requiring large employers to give employees PAID TIME OFF to get the vaccine and recover from any side-effects This has been a significant barrier for my people Shameful that most companies didn’t do this voluntarily

No one can. The pernicious thing about systemic racism is that its effects are often about things *not* happening: the mortgage application, the restaurant table reservation, the job, the promotion. It’s a phantom. Perversely, you blame yourself for its effects.

Resilience is critical to telling the stories you want to tell. There will be editors who tell you that your ideas aren't worth pursuing. There will be rounds of intimidating edits. There will be skeptical sources who don't trust you at first. Keep trying anyway.
