This is absurd. You know those things when starting a game? I never did.
How much time and money do you have for preproduction? I never had any. Just big staffs asking what to do right now, and over-ambitious dreams. And even if we did have the time and money, most of my games changed radically during production.

(I should mention I’m not hostile to your goals! And there is a lot of abuse that should be curbed. Just not sure the solutions are so easy or universal.)

What she described is basic project management and should apply to any project including games. If things change dramatically, you should stop and rethink/replan. Basically, you're starting a new project.

I was management. (I’ve run 4 studios now.) My point is games I’ve made were extremely iterative and exploratory and could not be pre-planned like you suggest. We didn’t know what game we were making until we made it. And I think that’s mostly a good thing, honestly.
