My first thought was transformer blowing, but usually that at least flickers the lights. And then a minute or so later there were a shitload of sirens.

Will do. It's crazy windy, which is also part of why I just sort of thought "transformer" first. But that makes it hard to tell just what the sirens (hearing tons of them still) are for.
