  3. SECRET TRICK: feel for “maybe-subliminal micro-resistance tests.” They might lightly resist or be stiff or still to see if you’re acting sensitively. So—sensitively micro be still, wait, move more slowly... They will soften and feel safe(r) because they are safe bc ur sensitive!

  4. Also if you’re in your teens & you’re a little crazy & you fuck it up a bit, I guess we’re in a different world than when I was in my teens. But you’re not a monster (usually) & being a good-faith, eye-contact human can make it safe for them to be angry/annoyed/flattered vs else

  5. If someone was into into something but suddenly isn’t, you’ll ideally know instantly or in seconds because they become very still, or stiff, or something feels suddenly strange, or you just know, or you slow to a crawl and wait patiently or ask, or they say...

  7. Asking before doing every little thing can be a mutually nice escalatiry thing though. No hard and fast rules. Or asking about every little thing *after* you’ve already decisively nonverbally moved forward can be nice.

  8. If you’re not sure, make eye contact, move slowly and reversibly, say something dumb (yet funny) and see if she laughs... or just wait patiently until you like figure it out and just know or while she’s like deciding, man (woman; person). If you just can’t then ask.

  12. It is challenging to parse out the manifold layers/levels of self-awareness that everything is operating at to ascertain the real things amidst a real hall of mirrors that are itself constitutive of that real thing. But then I still think there's more, the invariant heartline.

  16. So now I'm like 20 minutes in, and when someone with that amount of resources (I think? Yes and no?) experiences psychological trauma, what do they do? What can and can't they reach for that someone at a desk job can or can't reach for?

  17. It's painful that not everyone gets such an opportunity, to have the resources to relatively ego-syntonically, narrowly hone skills over decades to become one of the best in the world at a thing, but it's also beautiful and satisfying to get to see it happen.

  19. Somehow I know by osmosis that it is known that she writes all her own songs? Ok, I like this so far because, in addition to the the self-aware-self-aware [sic] people-pleasing thing, you get to see the slow, painstaking accumulation of skill over many years.

  20. I'm not sure I could pick out a single Taylor Swift song with 75% confidence if they were streaming by, but I'm two minutes into the netflix documentary, and it might actually be a psychologically nuanced character study. We shall see.
