    The cat’s out of the bag: I’m leaving The Virginian-Pilot and going back to Richmond. My last day at The Pilot will be July 6, and I’ll pick up covering the state July 23.

    Virginia Senate Republicans have a +2 majority right now. Black's retirement ups the stakes for this year's legislative elections. His replacement has to win in a left-leaning NoVa district that Democrats may focus on to grab the Senate.

    Black's announcement follows Del. Dickie Bell's retirement announcement last week. The difference, besides being different chambers, is that Bell's district could easily be won again by a Republican. Black's district is far from a sure thing.
