i used to think self-promotion was a really icky concept & practice, until i realized that the actual self-centered thing is to believe that people will just flock to your work (based on talent/"merit") without you having to say anything about it/support readers in finding it

thoughtfully talking about/generously sharing other people's work can also be "promotion" in the sense that you're showing whose work you're in conversation with. or just inspired by. i mean this is also just a good thing to be doing!

I speak almost daily to people who are desperately trying to control the thoughts of everyone on the internet using the power of a photo or tweet.
I find it is helpful to remember that lots of people are … less than great… and their approval is not particularly worth having 😅

I’d like to formally apologise for using the wrong symbol for em dashes for literally my *entire online life* 😩🙈

The Em dash is named after the fact that it's about the same width as the capital letter M.
Not sure of the difference between — and - ?
