I have looked at Africa in Landsat and Sentinel-2 a lot and this image, for example, has a standard colour stretch of surface reflectance (USGS level 2 data). I think it's fascinating how bright the Sahara is and how dark the Congo is.

I think we need to be a lot less comfortable with this. Promote and amplify people with specific expertise in the subject being discussed, don't pretend it doesn't matter.
