1/4 Today I received a beautiful package from . Months ago, I asked them and about purple butterflies in Mariposas and shared how much purple butterflies mean to us--they are how we memorialize my daughter who died at age 2 in 2018.

As a caveat, I am Language Dabbler. I primarily use Java; but am fluent in Ruby/Python/Perl, Bash, Kotlin, Clojure, Javascript; and past me has used C, C++, D, Scala, Go, Basic, Haskell, Forth. Sadly, not Smalltalk. I like to think of it as searching for the perfect language.

Without having really used it, I think is pointing towards the perfect language. It's assignment discipline allows for more safe code; concurrent code; and performant code (no GC) It seems to aim for balance between simplicity and expressional power.

He also says the perfect language can change itself at runtime. I have mixed feelings about this. I do love it at testing time. But from a safety-and-debugging-in-production point of view, I say "Meh". I am wondering if hygienic macros a good middle ground?

In that talk says the perfect language will have GC out of hand. For good reason: C/C++ memory management is unsafe. But I say that GC pauses are a pain; GC is a pain to tune; and GC offerings are rarely under your control. Not good for fast internet-scale systems

In that talk Uncle Bob pontificates on the perfect language and what aspects it will have. To me, as a large-scale distributed systems programmer for 15yrs, it should be easy to write safe code AND concurrent code AND performant code.

In 's ACCU keynote () he says language abstractions are *discipline* upon aspects of computing. Structured Programing=no goto; OOP=inversion of control; FP=no assignments; etc. Good insight.

When Notre Dame was burning, the world's media covered every moment of it and billionaires rushed to restore it. Right now the Amazon is burning, the lungs of our planet. It has been burning for 3 weeks now. No media coverage. No billionaires.
