Where are you moving my favourite painting to?

Hi Kenny, Hylas has gone to the art store for a while. The painting was taken down as part of a wider discussion about female representation in the gallery - there's more information here: http://manchesterartgallery.org/blog/presenting-the-female-body-challenging-a-victorian-fantasy/ …

Thank you for the response. Obviously I would like to see this painting again some time in the future. Art is sometimes provocative and makes you think. Can be sometimes offended sometimes uplifted. own view on particular piece should be available.
-
Agreed. This is a banal gesture still fighting the battles of the 1980s and 90s, as though the world hasn't long since got the message. It's the presence of the painting that provokes discourse, not its absence.

what happens to this painting if your gallery decides it doesn't not want to display it any longer?
-
That won't happen. This is a temporary action.http://manchesterartgallery.org/blog/presenting-the-female-body-challenging-a-victorian-fantasy/ …

Prompt conversation? This is a cheap stunt and pure horseshit. How's that?

How odd. So many horrible things happen in the world. But your act of wilful sadistic *ignorance* in removing this beautiful picture has upset me more than I can recall. I suppose you think of that as success. How very Sad

I can’t believe what I’m seeing . Are we voluntarily becoming puppets controlled by censorship. Are you getting all mad ?? This is very bad!

No it isn’t. It’s about a radical feminist curator imposing their ideology on the public at public expense.

One of the first paintings I saw in an art gallery as a young woman and inspired me to study art history and museum studies. This footage of the work’s mistreatment at your hands makes me feel physically sick

What a preposterous piece of pretentious egomania by
@mcrartgallery. What a sad world we live in. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2018/jan/31/manchester-art-gallery-removes-waterhouse-naked-nymphs-painting-prompt-conversation …@MarkOneinFour -
So you got your 'response' then! Pretty one-sided 'debate' too.

This is a crap attempt at controversial publicity at best and gross virtue signalling at worst. Can't believe we're censoring art now
-
I'd hope that with scores of women telling them they're wrong for doing this, they'd get the message that they've gone bonkers, but somehow I feel that message won't sink in.
-
I have a feeling it'll be twisted as a "social experiment"

-
I think that was their aim from the start. I've seen this referred to as the "Doesn't matter, had conversation" tactic. -- Justifying a morally wrong action by noting that people talked about it. Doesn't make any sense as a justification, but it's used all the time lately.
