Extremely excited to share work I've been doing at OpenAI the past few months: MuseNet, a neural net music generator. It's been a huge team effort pulling this all together!

Story time. SharpestMinds has a lot of hiring partners (>200). Today I'm going to talk about one of them. Let's call them Moonshot Labs. Moonshot Labs does cutting-edge AI research. Moonshot Labs also does something very special.

One last composition before bedtime. It's supposed to be based on the style of Beethoven, but I think it sounds more modern? I dunno, maybe he was more versatile than I realize. (via )

A few people have (fairly!) pointed out that 's jazz generations are uninspired. The main reason for this is I didn't gather a big jazz midi dataset. If any jazz musicians are interested in training the model to imitate your own style, please send midi files my way!

Our Sunday family breakfast is going to have the soundtrack provided by OpenAI this week instead of one of our vinyl records. From one extreme to the other.

This is with the “Video Games” style, with no intro. Notice that at the end of the clip, it goes right back to the B section. It sounds like has a lot of old Mega Man tunes from the NES in its training set.

With , I feel that has taken a great leap forward in the field of music generation. No other tool I've tried comes anywhere near in terms of long-term coherence. I'll probably tweet out some examples over the following days!

    - this is seriously impressive - AI generated piano and wind - just needs a little work on the endings I think?

Thanks to for pushing me to do yesterday's uncurated MuseNet concert (without letting me pick only the good songs!) It's scary when it's your own work on the line, but I do love 's commitment to openly sharing both where models do well and where they fall apart.

Had 's AI concert as background music this afternoon. It's truly amazing. The model 'gets' certain styles better than others but if you have ever played music before the results are terrifyingly good. Computers can be creative. congrats and team
