HR departments exist to keep up with employment legislation and make sure the company doesn't breach it/ can't be sued for breaching it. That's it. That's why companies spend money on them. Not for the benefit of employees.

There are some incredible companies out there who have HR teams that work very hard to provide benefits in an attempt to make their employee’s lives better. I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences, but they aren’t universally bad. Hoping you find something better out there soon!!

YMMV with that. As a visibly queer individual, albeit one of the more talented ones in my department, when people butt heads over my existence, I'm seen as the problem rather than co-workers being butts even though they don't bring as much to the company.

Ummm your queer story is cool but not about my company. We taught all diversity to all ...this is why I had hard time getting my sexual harassing peer. He taught it.. Disgusting ..but seriously as an HR REP - didn't see much on gender diversity. Was shutdown-war. Nobody was safe

I’d love your response please DM me if you’d like...I’m interested in hearing others experiences- most are really basically the same as mine. I try to figure where I weant wrong and we’re my company my Department- failed me. No concern for what I lived through for at least 7 yes

I've found that in smaller companies HR tends to be bundled in with accounts as that's where all the confidential docs are kept locked away. In medium companies HR and IT managers report to the financial director.

I worked for a big company and with my disability (back injury) they went above what they should have done. I was not just a employee, i was a asset that made them money so they did everything to keep me.

I’ve worked for both and concur with both opinions. However in smaller companies, preserving the talent and working things out can lead to more friction if the talent is a so-called “super-performer” or family. Working things out sometimes means leaving the company voluntarily.
