Something I used to do back in the church, when I saw/heard something egregiously ridiculous, was try to find answers to the questions: "where would somebody GET an idea like that?" "why would somebody BELIEVE an idea like that?"
The explicitly religious misogynists use a vaguely Biblical sexual purity story framework to argue for the eternal punishment of women. But these ostensibly secular "incel" dudes are using a story they got from things like John Hughes movies.

That a lot of these story templates we carry around in our heads -- because we all get stuff from the movies, let's be real -- are, deep down in their bones, toxic and misogynistic and sexist as hell.
