I was heartbroken this weekend to learn of the passing of my friend, colleague, and co-author @DarrilGibson. Those of you who knew Darril know that he was a kind soul who dedicated his professional career first to the service of his nation and then to the cybersecurity community.

When asked for more details about the new certification, (ISC)2 said that it will be a "pathway to CISSP". It will have no work experience requirement and is targeted at people who are new to the profession, current students, and career changers.

Two interesting items of #CISSP news today 1. (ISC)2 is planning to launch an entry-level cybersecurity certification for students and newcomers to the field. Expect beta availability in January. 2. Online testing is coming back. They're planning a new remote testing pilot

Missouri Governor called the work of journalist hacking. He pointed out that a state website sent SSNs in outbound HTML. The “hacking” here was clicking View Source. Parson is either deliberately misleading or woefully misinformed.

Healthcare providers must double down on cybersecurity protections. Ransomware is a known threat with proven countermeasures. Failure to protect against it is a failure to properly care for patients. (4/4)

Even if the courts find that the hospital had no legal obligation to share this information, common sense suggests an ethical obligation to do so and allow patients a fully informed choice about whether they should seek care elsewhere. (3/4)

It is especially troubling that the hospital is arguing that they had no responsibility to inform patients that they were operating without the benefit of modern medical records and communications systems. (2/4)

It was only a matter of time until #ransomware contributed to an otherwise preventable death. Whatever the outcome of this litigation, it’s clear that while the cyberattack may not have directly caused this tragic infant death, it contributed to it. (1/4)

Last year, Congress authorized the creation of a national cybersecurity director within the White House, but this position remains unfilled. In the wake of attacks like this and Solar Winds, it is clear that filling the role needs to be a higher priority. (4/4)

This shutdown sends the message that core elements of our national infrastructure continue to be vulnerable to cyberattack. Securing our energy infrastructure is a national security issue that involves several different federal agencies and requires centralized leadership. (3/4)
