Yeah, I used http://goo.gl quite a bit, assuming it was going to be a reliable long-term service. URL shorteners are pretty trivial, granted, but http://goo.gl was a pretty good one overall, and the cost to Google was pretty minimal.
Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about long-term alternatives. Maybe it's gonna have to be up to organizations like the @linuxfoundation or @fsf to help develop some of those—like inexpensive, reliable domain registration and whatnot. And a good URL shortening service.

I don't know what the answers are, really, but I fear it's gonna wind up having to be up to the geek community rather than private enterprise. Which . . . ugh, frustrating.
