  1. McDonald Observatory will be closed all day today (Feb 5th) due to ice and snow. All programs have been cancelled for today. Stay warm!

  2. We expect several inches of snow tonight, so we will delay opening until noon Wed the 5th until further notice. Morning programs have been cancelled. If conditions do not improve, the Observatory may remain closed all day on Wednesday. Watch this space for updates.

    There's a new dome on Mt. Fowlkes! The dome will house a new laser ranging telescope, which will bounce laser light off of satellites with reflectors to determine their distance and orbit, and fine tune GPS accuracy. The telescope is part of NASA's Space Geodesy project.
