There is a reason people talk about research skills. Research requires skills. Specific kinds of research very often require specific skills and knowledge. All these can be taught. But they do need to be learned.

As a side note, it's funny that this is something scientists readily accept of their own areas of expertise but sometimes forget or even deny when it comes to the work of people in non-STEM fields. But schadenfreude isn't really an option when people are dying.
