it sounds like you've been on crappy teams that didn't really know how to use it for its strengths. File sharing? that's for email. Story planning, workflow are way easier, as is team-building when you're not all in the same place. Don't discount the power of a well-used emoji.

Interestingly the ardent Slackers in our office are low/no users of social media...something which speaks to its strength
honestly it's just that i like to use emoji and email makes that harder.
