Soooooo... perhaps it's because I waived all hope of hipness when we adopted our first (of four) kids, but I cannot fathom what on EARTH could motivate people to throw a child's birthday party in a bar. I'm genuinely appalled.
I mean, let's be clear though: I'm mostly annoyed because it meant I couldn't do my crossword puzzle in a bar. There are no heroes on either side here.

Perhaps it's because of my deep antipathy to children, both personally and professionally, but I don't think one need defend one's desire to enjoy a child-free space... in a space that has traditionally been free of children
