Might be because writing in a newsroom is more about writing than it is about the tech. You can learn the tech pretty quickly— it’s just another beat. Teaching technologists to write is something else entirely.
I find the real friction isn't about tech skills or writing skills -- smart, curious people can learn both -- but about fundamentally different approaches to the work itself. They're not insurmountable, but it takes work.

I'd agree. Distinct cultural approaches that start from completely different places. Learning both is to acknowledge you're going to constantly slip into the cognitive crevasse between how one side frames the world vs the other.

I know I, for one, fit much better on the journalist side. My brief stint as a tech writer in a tech company was... challenging.
