Two things: I have to be on because I can't do my job well without it. But to your other point, you already have a network of friends and colleagues you can connect with in other ways. Imagine that you didn't, and Facebook offered you one.
certainly not crazy advice, but to suggest, as some of the people in your replies are doing, that there's no nuance here is ... kinda mean? Point is, it's not so simple as just walking away, especially when there are fewer alternatives and certainly no one obvious option.

it's just very strange to see people being so haughty about this. "well I could walk away, why can't you?" as if everyone has the same experience and concerns about being on there vs not being on there. The smugness is offputting. <she tweeeted>
