Yeah the statewide teachers strike is being criminally underreported, especially by the @nytimes & TV news & your defensive tweet rant doesn't change that fact. Most people I've casually asked haven't heard a thing about it, compared to celebrity gossip or the Florida shooting

Don’t be a drama king. West Virginia newspapers, tv, radio has been all over this story, with national media in the mix as well. Twitter woefully underrepresents local and more detailed news coverage. NYT, WashPo aren’t places to go for this kind of coverage.

Interesting how most of the "media is doing a good job" claims are coming from journalists. I invite you to consider if and how your occupation might be hindering you from hearing other perspectives

This is not a question of whether they’re doing a good job, we’re discussing the amount of coverage, which has been a lot by WVA media. The coverage is there, and extensive if you go beyond Twitter feed and national orgs. Don’t discredit work by local journalists because

You can’t look beyond the big orgs for coverage. I worked at local newspapers-we NEVER let national news come in our hood and cover story better than we did. We had local connections, more in-depth, 24/7 coverage.

I’m not opposed to hearing different views, but when they don’t take into account an entire state of news orgs doing wall-to-wall coverage on this strike, I have to speak. It’s rare to find ‘no coverage’ on issue this huge.

You're misconstrueing the nature of the complaint. West Virginia media is great for informing West Virginians but does little to inform the rest of the country.

Their job is literally to inform state of WVA.
What you seem to misunderstand is national news, AP are summaries-local news is more in-depth. Both levels have put news out there. As a reader, you choose how much you want to know.3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
<stepping in to point out that national orgs have done some great in-depth work on this strike, and a lot of people have actually read it>

Maybe, but they were late to the party, probably responding to this kind of criticism, and have alot more work to do

The first NYT story appeared on Day 2 of the strike. It being well covered and people in your circle being unaware of it happening are things that can both be true. They're not mutually exclusive. There is a MASSIVE amount of news for people to consume these days.

The whole country heard about the Florida shooting on day 1. Most of the country has not heard about the teachers strike 7 working days and 4 weekend days in. The reason why is the disparity of national news coverage on the two issues.

I read about the strike on day one, as did my dad, who called to tell me about it. It’s not ‘elitist’ to think people read about stories that interest them, but your use of that term and ‘everyday Americans,’ speaks volumes.
