People do this all the time, but in this case the story *has* been pretty well buried. Scanned of NYT, CNN, WaPo right now & there's nothing really on their front pages, among many many stories of IMO far less consequence.
It really has not. It's the whole front page of today's NYT national section, for starters.

I don't have a print copy here, but again - at NYT online it has literally zero front page placement. There's one story (4th position) on the US page, from yesterday.

And this is purely anecdotal, but I'd guess that the average American has close to zero awareness of the strike. You have to dig to hear about it.
