Every single tweet about the media ignoring the teacher strike in West Virginia is filled with links from NPR, LAT, NYT, WaPo and others covering the teacher strike in West Virginia

My mentions are taking on a flavor of "Corporate media [that is often unionized] hates unions and that's why they're not covering the strike [that it is actually covering]!" So, uh, I'm taking my own advice and getting off Twitter for a while. Masterchef Junior is back!

disagree w your premise. getting off Twitter is not the answer to filling in the gaps of your daily news literacy; realizing twitter is just part of your daily consumption and following links leading you to further critical discussions are. imo.

It is amazing how social media platforms can create their own little worlds and realities.

Get off Twitter is great advice, also because thanks to algorithms, we don't always see everything from the people we're following.

Good advice. A while back I began starting my morning at news dot google dot com BEFORE going on twitter, and dipping back into it & other news sites during the day as well. It has helped immensely.

It also means that I start my day with professional analysis of the previous day’s news, rather than hair-on-fire tweets about what’s happening this instant, and that’s a good thing. It dampens the chaos ever so slightly but it makes a huge difference.

I am guilty of this and will try to do better. Thanks for calling it out.

Very often when we ask "why isn't the media covering this?" we should be asking "why aren't the people I'm connected to on social media talking about this?"
