Call me old-fashioned but it's a newsroom, it's supposed to be loud* *get off my lawn
15 years in newsrooms and I've never had trouble concentrating like I have this week. That includes the two (2!) times a sewer line broke over my desk at Stars & Stripes.

i think it's the call center style layout and lack of any soft surfaces i.e. crap all over everybody's desk.
