I just don't think teaching girls about body autonomy is something to be sad about. I mean, I'm sad I didn't learn it earlier, but these girls are spared that.

To be fair, it seems like a lot of adults need to learn not to swoop down on a kid the minute they get in the door. "Can I have a big hug?" is a question that can be asked warmly and affectionately. It's not weird or awkward to check first.
