call me old-fashioned but I want an alert when some serious shit is going down, not when an expensive thing sells a bit more expensively than expected

Here's the line, for me: I want to get a push alert *only* for news that's important, exciting, or scary enough to make me wake up @jamesrbuk. that's the acid test.

an expensive painting sold more expensively than expected is cool, and in the old newspaper age I'd have read it with interest on the bottom of page two of the culture section, right after reading the interview with Lorde

the serious point here is that it's the boy who cried wolf. push alert too much and you devalue it. but the clicks are just too tasty. so you get push alert mission-creep.

I just want to avoid a situation where there is an imminent nuclear strike happening and I'm ignoring my phone because last time I got that many alerts it was because Beyonce released a new album
