There are a million, you're right. But dateline info is actually pretty good stuff for readers to know: this is where, and I was there.

And they'll still get that information. No one is taking it from then, they're just presenting it in a less arcane way.

I kinda liked knowing whether an article about Korea was being reported from Korea vs. New York. But I'm an old-fashioned kinda guy.

I'm with you, but remember *lots* of newspaper readers don't like change and will light up the newsroom phone anytime anything's different.

That's probably not the case today but at least part of the reason why reluctance to change is so deeply embedded in newsrooms.
