sad that Beatty took brunt of blame for being befuddled old man. He was looking to Faye to see what he was seeing and she blurted.
i think there's room for disagreement in what happened in that moment, but my reading is that he knew and let her read it.

I wish he'd gone off stage to ask, but I probably would have done what he did in the moment. "Uhh..I dunno...you do it."
