Pedagogical question. In most liberal arts programs, do they have kids read influential thinkers (eg Marx, Freud) before their disciples?

it's possible, even likely, to come across them but not widespread. You're not getting them in freshman seminar.

I worked in bookstores at two liberal arts college in 2000ish. You're getting a loooot of pop-sociology books early on (1/2)

Neil Postman and Robert Putnam were both HUGE at both schools for basic intro classes across disciplines: psych and phil.
