As a child, were you taught to tap the top of a can of soda before opening it?

The idea was that it was meant to keep the soda from exploding, but i'm pretty sure that's entirely fabricated.

But now, thanks to LaCroix, I'm drinking out of soda cans for the first time in forever, and thinking of those superstitions.

Only if it's been shaken or dropped and only within minutes. Given time, it will settle anyway.
