The thing I am missing most tonight is the ritual of leaving work and going to a mostly deserted bar, where my boyfriend has timed his arrival to match mine because he knows when I left the office, and we sit long enough to walk home after the sun goes down but before it’s dark.
There are these trees on our route home from the coziest of these bars, and they’re so leafy that you can walk under them for an entire block, and through them you can see that light-blue dusk sky, and one or two glasses of wine is just enough to take the day’s edge off.
I had a really crappy time of it a year or two back, and we went to that place a little more frequently then, and I always felt better on that walk home, after those visits. Even just thinking about it now makes me feel a bit better about <gestures> all of this.
