I prefer to follow Rick James' usage guidance: Note that 'freak' is not the proper adjectival form, e.g.: She's a super freak, super freak BUT She's super freaky
was it you who wondered the other month how many of our style entries were the result of one single person's personal dislike of particular phrases, amplified into a whole book?

That sounds like something I've said a lot of times, so probably? Like, so many of the rules aren't grounded in etymology or other usage guidebooks, and I feel like I'm just writing to please somebody in 1935 who get a bee in their bonnet about some random word or other.
