The cemetery was built and designed as a park and has acted as such for more than 100 years. There’s nothing wrong with visiting it. It’s the behavior of *some* visitors that’s beyond the pale here.

Cemeteries are beautiful places to walk and Victorian cemeteries in particular were designed to be that way. If I'm ever travelling somewhere that's inhospitable to pedestrians, I can always count on the local cemetery as a safe place to stroll.

Sounds like a lot of people agree with you guys, but I would much rather walk in a park without graves (but like you said, in NYC there aren’t enough of those). It seems creepy and disrespectful to me, but plenty of people don’t agree.
