A former child star who was in one movie franchise that you saw as a kid is arrested 30 years later and thought to be on meth. He hasn't had an acting credit in 12 years. Should it be news? Should it be news for niche entertainment sites? Should it be news for mainstream sites?

It's really common to see major entertainment sites post some knock-off 2 paragraph aggregated story in order to grab a bit of traffic. And since Google weighs their importance higher in search results, they can push out smaller sites. But is it a good long-term goal?

For my own site, I've found that posting a lot of counter-intuitive stuff gets the most traffic. Covering things everyone else ignores helps me cut through the search clutter. Which is why I pretty much ignore celeb/gossip stuff entirely.

What is the cost to a mainstream site running an AP/Reuters blurb on the web? That is math here, maybe it generates ad revenue for a minimum cost.

these were not wire stories. (many of those are automatic feeds anyway.)
